You Can Work or Play With Your RAM 1500

The RAM 1500 is an all-purpose pickup truck that is just as able to haul a horse trailer over the Rockies as it is to haul the kids to the grocery store. With many trim levels from which to choose, you won’t lack for choices in body styles, features, and power in the RAM 1500. Choose from three cab styles: the regular, the quad, and the crew cab. Three box lengths – the 5-foot-7-inch, the 6-foot-4-inch, and the 8-foot – give even more flexibility in customizing your RAM 1500.

What’s New for the 2021 RAM 1500?

RAM made several timely upgrades to their signature pickup for 2021, starting with the addition of new work and off-roading technology assistance. The infotainment system now contains off-road pages to monitor pitch and roll, and you can also use the interface to access a transfer case mode. You can opt for steering assistance while backing up to hook up to a trailer, and RAM has also added new safety options to protect everyone onboard. The truck’s safety tech is now available across a wider range of trims. To commemorate a decade across roadways and worksites, the Limited Longhorn is now available in a 10th Anniversary Edition with distinctive exterior badging, leather upholstery, wood accents, and more.

How the RAM 1500 Has Evolved

Dodge Brothers first began pickup production in 1917. However, it wasn’t until 1981 that the RAM name was first used. A RAM’s head hood ornament was first used in 1933 but was discontinued in the ’50s. Dodge’s coding for its 2- and 4-wheel drives and weight ratings were designated as “D” for 2-wheel drives and “W” for 4-wheel drives. The numbers, 150, 250, and 350, were half-ton, three-quarter ton, and 1 ton, respectively. The 4x4s were known as Power RAMs.

The 1981 RAMs were built of lighter-weight sheet metal that was more rust-resistant. Through the ’80s, the truck received little changes to both the interior and exterior, as well as the powertrain. Electronic fuel injection was introduced in 1988 and new engines in 1989. The Cummins Turbodiesel debuted about this time.

The second generation of RAMs lasted from 1994-2001. Designations were changed to 1500, 2500, and 3500, and the Laramie SLT was added. The RAM underwent still more changes and upgrades during the third-generation years of 2002-2008. Engine power was beefed up, and interior comfort was upgraded. The fourth and current generation continues to improve and upgrade the RAM trucks.
